The role of media in promoting tourism was discussed at the 25th general assembly of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies, hosted by the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) on Tuesday.

Opening the meeting bringing together public news agencies from 22 countries, ATA director general Gezim Podgorica noted that media plays a crucial role in promoting tourism.

"Tourism today needs to say some truths in a broader sense. We want to draw attention to a variety of thrill-seeking adventures, landscapes, culture, etc which entwined also offer opportunities to develop clear ideas about each country," he said.

"Our focus is to find quicker and more diverse ways to exchange information. For months now, ATA provides partner news agencies with a weekly newsletter containing economic and cultural news and features on history and traditions, but also reports on statements of political resonance in the region and beyond," he said.
