Lebanon foils 3 bombing attempts

Xinhua, May 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Lebanon's Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk revealed Monday that security forces in recent months have uncovered three networks plotting to carry out bombings in Lebanon.

"In the last three months we were able to foil three bombing attempts by the Islamic State (IS)," Machnouk told a press conference.

Lebanon was hit by attacks that targeted the heartland of the Shiite Militant party of Hezbollah in Beirut's southern suburbs and in the northeast of the country, and the IS claimed most of them.

The most recent attack was in the southern Beirut suburb of Burj al-Barajneh last November, where the IS carried out a double suicide bombing in a busy commercial street, killing at least 47 people and wounding scores more. Endit
