NATO chief visit Poland in preparations for July summit

NATO will enhance its military presence in Poland after the Warsaw Summit, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said here Monday.

Stoltenberg starts a two-day visit in Poland on Monday, mainly to discuss preparations for the Alliance's summit, which was scheduled for July 8-9 in Warsaw.

After a meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Stoltenberg told a press conference that NATO will take decisions to strengthen its deterrence and defense and step up efforts to project stability beyond its borders.

"We have agreed to enhance our forward presence in the eastern part of our Alliance. This will be a multinational presence. It will be a rotational presence. We have clear proposals on the table from our military planners. We are discussing the exact numbers and locations on this enhanced forward presence of NATO troops, and we will make decisions by the Warsaw Summit," Stoltenberg said.

President Duda said, as the host of the NATO summit, Poland will be a versatile character that will respond to all challenges.

On Tuesday, Stoltenberg will deliver a speech at the Warsaw University. He will also meet with the Polish Minister of National Defense Antoni Macierewicz and Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski. Endit
