PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan -- Afghan government forces backed by airpower have killed and injured more than two dozen Taliban militants in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the northern Baghlan province with Pul-e-Khumri as its capital 160 km north of Kabul over the past two days, a local official said Saturday.
District governor Gohar Khan Babri told Xinhua that several villages have also been liberated from Taliban clutches, and the militants have fled away. ANKARA -- Turkish military stroke the Islamic State (IS) positions in northern Syria, and 104 IS militants were killed, the Turkish General Staff said in a written statement on Saturday.
The attack was launched late Friday after six rockets fired by IS targeted Turkish border province of Kilis and two military posts. Since mid-January, IS rockets have been targeting towns and cities in southern Turkey, close to the Syrian frontier. A total of 21 people have been killed and more than 70 others wounded. (Turkey-IS)

MANILA -- The Philippine government condemned on Saturday the killing of a reporter in Manila and vowed to go after his attackers.
Police identified the victim as Alex Balcoba, 56, a reporter who writes for People's Brigada tabloid. He was gunned down at around 7:30 p.m. Friday in front of the family-owned watch repair shop in Manila's Quiapo suburb, police said. (Philippine-Reporter-Death)

DUBLIN -- Irish naval vessel LE Roisin on Saturday rescued 123 people off Libya coast, the military said.
Following a request from Italian maritime rescue authorities, the Irish naval vessel located a 12 meter long rubber vessel craft, 28 nautical miles northwest of Tripoli and rescued the people on board. LE Roisin has rescued 519 people to date excluding Saturday's figures, as part of its effort to assist the Italian authorities in the humanitarian search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean.
