Blast inside stone quarry kills 4 in India

Four labourers were killed and another injured seriously following a blast inside a stone quarry Friday in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

The blast took place at Gaurhari village of Mahoba district, about 231 km south of Lucknow city, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.

"Blast inside a stone quarry at Gaurhari village today killed four labourers and critically injured one," a police official said. "The labourers were crushed under the debris of rocks which fell upon them due to the blast."

The injured labourer, according to officials, was admitted at a hospital.

Police has registered a case and initiated investigations to ascertain the reason behind the blast and to find if labourers have ignored the warnings.

Blasts inside stone quaries is part of mining process and ahead of it warnings are usually issued to keep people and labourers away from the blasting site. Endit
