China warns of geological disasters

Xinhua, May 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

China's meteorological authority on Friday warned the public of possible geological disasters as heavy rain is expected to linger.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) warned of high risks of geological disasters in parts of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Anhui Province, as well as Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The NMC suggested people in these areas take precautions against possible mountain torrents, mud and rock flows and landslides.

The NMC also renewed a blue alert for heavy rain on Friday evening. Rain is expected to continue in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Anhui from Friday night to Saturday night, with precipitation forecast to reach up to 140 millimeters, the center said.

China has a four-tier color-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Endit
