Tokyo shares open higher on rising hopes for tax hike delay

Tokyo shares opened higher Friday morning with market sentiment lifted by rising hopes for delay of the consumption tax hike.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 66.18 points, or 0.39 percent, from Thursday to 16,838.64.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 4.77 points, or 0.36 percent, to 1,347.64.

Notable gainers included mining, insurance and nonferrous metal issues. Endit
