Xinhua, May 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Opposition supporters in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) on Thursday began their political protest in the capital Kinshasa.

So far, there has been no major incident around the protest that began near Triomphal boulevard.

The protest is being held in the presence of several opposition leaders accompanied by thousands of their supporters who are carrying various flags representing their political parties.

The objective of the protest is to denounce a ruling by the Constitutional Court which authorized President Joseph Kabila to remain in power beyond the end of his constitutional term until the organization of next presidential elections.

The National Independent Electoral Commission which is in charge of organizing elections in DR Congo, recently said it could not organize elections by the end of this year as scheduled, since it required 17 months to revise the electoral register. Endit
