Eastring pipeline feasibility study might be completed by year's end

The feasibility study for the Eastring gas pipeline, one of Slovak gas pipeline operator Eustream's biggest strategic project could be completed by the end of the year.

"Based on its results, we'll make a decision on further steps in implementing the project," announced spokesperson of Eastring Pavol Kubik on Wednesday.

The Eastring gas pipeline project, which is set to connect Slovakia with the Balkans, will strengthen the country's energy security somewhat, confirmed Slovak Economy Minister Peter Ziga in early May.

Eastring's budget ranges between 1.5 to 2 billion euros (1.67 to 2.23 billion U.S. dollars). Its technical capacity in the initial stage of the project is 20 billion cubic meters, to be expanded to 40 billion in the final stage. Depending on the final decision on its route, the pipeline's length should range between 744 to 1,015 km.

The Eastring gas pipeline was included in the list of Projects of Common Interest by the European Commission at the turn of this year. Endit
