Monetary Authority of Singapore launches native orchids series coin set

Xinhua, May 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) launched a special coin set which features various orchid species, said the authority in a statement on Wednesday.

Entitled "the Splendour of Native Orchids Series," the coin set features orchids from the Native Orchids of Singapore coin series issued from 2011 to 2015, which celebrates the beauty of orchids that once thrived in Singapore, some of which are still found in the forests nowadays.

MAS said that the special coin set comprises 10 pieces of 999 fine silver proof coins with color application, along with one serialized certificate of authenticity. Each coin has a face value of 1 Singapore dollar, weighs 8.56 grams and has a diameter of 24.66 mm.

Each orchid is featured in full color, set against a sandblasted background to accentuate the full brilliance of the orchids. The name of the orchid is minted on the shiny upper circumference of the coin. The obverse of the coins bears the Singapore Coat of Arms with the year 2016.

With a mintage of 4,000 sets, the special coin set will be issued on June 24, MAS added. Endit
