Senior official calls for improvement of ethnic, religious work

A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday called for improvement in work related to ethnic and religious affairs.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks during an inspection tour in north China's Henan Province between May 22 and 24, with ethnic, religious work as his focus.

Yu urged all related authorities to carry out the CPC's policies and promote ethnic solidarity.

During his tour, Yu visited markets, schools and religious venues, where he met delegates of ethnic minorities, students and religious people.

Yu asked questions about Xinjiang ethnic students and migrant workers who are studying and living in inland cities and called for better protection of their interests and rights.

He encouraged educational institutions where minority students are studying to improve their teaching standards. He also required sound vocational counsel for minority students, so that they can better fit in and make contributions to national unity and common prosperity.

Yu also highlighted the rule of law in addressing all sorts of religion-related issues. He calls for the continuous development of religious theories featuring socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The government should educate and guide religious believers to conduct religious activities in accordance with the law, he added. Endi
