Grenade explosion in southern Ukraine kills 3

Three members of a family were killed after a hand grenade exploded inside their house in Ukraine' s southern Kherson region, local authorities said on Monday.

According to the press service of the National Police in Kherson region, the accident occurred in a small village of Geroyske, when a 69-year-old owner of the house and two his nephews, one is 28 years old and the other is 42 years old, were inside the building.

The three men died on the spot from multiple shrapnel wounds. The shockwave from the blast was so powerful that it has blown out windows and doors in the building.

According to the preliminary report of the police, the blast was accidental and caused by the careless use of an explosive device. Further investigation is underway.

In recent months, there has been a surge of deaths caused by firearms in Ukraine as the country is flooded with illegal weapons from the conflict area in its eastern regions. Endit
