Palestinian killed after allegedly trying to stab Israeli police in West Bank

Xinhua, May 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian woman who allegedly tried to stab an Israeli police guard was shot dead on Monday, Israeli authorities said.

The suspect reached an Israeli checkpoint north of Jerusalem in the West Bank, near the Jewish settlement of Givat Ze'ev, where she raised the suspicions of members of the paramilitary border police, police spokeswoman Luba Samri said in a statement.

The guards urged her to stop, but she continued to approach one guard, wielding a knife, when one of the guards shot her, according to Samri.

A paramedic at the scene pronounced her dead, and no Israelis were injured in the incident.

This incident is the latest in a wave of violence that started in October and had claimed the lives of 28 Israelis and 204 Palestinians. Endit
