Six paramilitary troopers including an officer were killed Sunday in a militant ambush in northern eastern state of Manipur, officials said.

The militants ambushed the paramilitary men at in Joubi in Chandel district, about 64 km south of Imphal city, the capital of Manipur.

"Six personnel of Assam Rifles including a junior commissioned officer were killed in an ambush laid by militants in Chandel district," an official said.

The paramilitary troopers were returning after assessing a landslide affected area in the district.

Reports said militants snatched six service rifles from the slain troopers.

So far no militant outfit operating in the state has claimed responsibility of the deadly attack. Endit
