1st LD: Volcano eruption kills 3, injures 4 in Indonesia's North Sumatra

Three people were killed and four others seriously injured as Mount Sinabung volcano in Indonesia's North Sumatra erupted on Saturday.

The eruption sent columns of ash up to 3 km to the sky, an official from the disaster agency said.

The eruption had occurred for at least four times during the day, with hot ash sliding off the west slope of the volcano by up to 4.5 km, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the national disaster management agency told Xinhua via phone. Endit
