Xinhua, May 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Heavy rainfall that started Thursday has affected more than 280,000 people, forcing more than 2,000 to be relocated in east China's Jiangxi Province, local authorities said.

As of 4 p.m., the lives of 285,600 people in 11 counties had been disrupted by the downpour, while 2,085 others had been evacuated, according to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters.

The headquarters estimated 24,600 hectares of crops were affected, but no casualties have been reported.

The provincial meteorological department has forecast persistent rainfall for most of the province over the next 24 hours, bringing risks of landslides and mud and rock flows in mountainous regions. Endi
