3 militants killed in accidental explosion of suicide vest in NW Pakistan

Xinhua, May 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least three suicide bombers were killed while on the way to carry out attacks in Pakistan's northwest Peshawar city on Friday morning, officials said.

Superintendent Police Kashif Zulfiqar, said that the militants were riding a motorbike when the suicide jacket of one of them went off, in suburban Kafoar Dheri area of Peshawar, the capital city of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

He said that two of the terrorists looked like foreigners while one had local features and all of them were equipped with suicide vests, sophisticated weapons and hand grenades.

The accident happened a few miles away from Warsak Road area where dozens of schools and colleges are located, shortly before the school time.

Bomb disposal squad reached the blast site and defused the other two suicide vests of the militants.

Police said that the terrorists entered Peshawar city from the neighboring Khyber Agency tribal area and were on a mission to carry out a series of bomb blasts targeting educational institutions and mosques, during Friday prayers, in the city.

The accident came one day after police in the country's central Multan city killed eight terrorists who were plotting an attack at a university. Endit
