Medina leads Brazilian rally at Rio Pro

Xinhua, May 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Brazil will have at least three surfers in the Rio Pro quarterfinals after Adriano de Souza, Miguel Pupo and Gabriel Medina won their fourth-round heats on Wednesday.

In choppy conditions at Postinho beach, Medina posted his second perfect 10 of the event en route to a two-wave score of 18.10.

It was easily enough for the 2014 world champion to defeat Tahiti's Michel Bourez (7.90) and Jack Freestone of Australia (7.77).

Defending world champion De Souza notched 17.44 from his two best waves to overcome Australian Davey Cathels (8.64) and Brazilian Caio Ibelli (4.57).

Pupo posted 12.73, enough to eclipse compatriot Italo Ferreira (12.50) and Australian Adam Melling (10.90). Endit
