Xinhua, May 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Confucius Institute on Wednesday celebrated two years of its operations at the University of Ghana, Legon.

Over the past two years, the Confucius Institute has made remarkable achievements in teaching Chinese language and promoting Chinese culture.

Currently, the total number of students in the Institute has already exceeded 2,000, ranging from kindergarten children to university students as well as different public groups.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Sun Baohong thanked the university authorities, especially Vice-Chancellor Professor Ernest Aryeetey for participating in and witnessing the birth and growth of the Confucius Institute and for always lending full support to its development.

"I sincerely hope that China and Ghana will continue to strengthen cultural exchanges and jointly promote cultural prosperity and development," she said.

Aryeetey said the Confucius Institute had set the pace for other institutes to be set up in the country in the days ahead.

"I will therefore urge the directors and entire staff of the institute not to rest on their oars but to continue with the hard work that has brought the institute this far," she said. Enditem
