Burundi receives 400 Burundian nationals expelled from Rwanda

Over 400 Burundian illegal immigrants who were expelled since last week from Rwanda's southern parts have been received in Ngozi province bordering Rwanda, Burundi News Agency reported Wednesday.

The agency reported that flows of Burundian illegal immigrants started to arrive in Ngozi province since Saturday.

According to the agency, Marangara District alone has received 155 Burundian immigrants who have been expelled from southern parts of Rwanda.

It added that those Burundian nationals, who had spent between three and five years in Rwanda, left Rwanda without being allowed to bring their belongings or their children if they were married to Rwandans.

On Saturday, about 800 Burundian illegal immigrants were expelled from southern parts of Rwanda.

Those Burundian nationals had gone to Rwanda to seek jobs.

The expulsion by the Rwandan government of Burundian nationals was unwelcomed by Burundian authorities.

Relations between Burundi and Rwanda have deteriorated after Burundi accused Rwanda of hosting and supporting perpetrators of the May 13, 2015 coup plot against Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza. Endit
