Zambian leader invites Saudi Arabia's major agri firm

Xinhua, May 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambian President Edgar Lungu has invited a major Saudi Arabian agricultural processing firm to set up a factory in the southern African nation, state media reported on Wednesday.

Lungu, who arrived in Saudi Arabia on May 16 for a two-day state visit to Saudi Arabia, invited Halwani Brothers, which is situated on the outskirts of Jeddah, to take advantage of Zambia's rich agricultural production and set up a processing factory, according to state broadcaster, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.

Lungu said he would like the firm to bring its technology to Zambia and partner with local firms, adding that by investing in the country, the firm will not only explore the Zambian market but also its eight neighbors.

Saleh Ahmed Hefni, the company's chief executive officer promised that a delegation from the firm would shortly visit Zambia and explore ways of investing in the African nation.

The firm, he said, was looking at ways of expanding its business beyond Saudi Arabia and that Zambia will be a better place to start from. Endit
