Chinese firm helps Nigerian state renovate school building

Chinese firm Sepco III on Tuesday handed over a renovated classrooms and educational materials at a cost of 7.5 million naira (37,000 U.S. dollars) to the southwest Nigeria's Ogun State government.
The Chinese company renovated Olorunsogo Community Primary School at Ifo Local Government Area of the state, as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The Consul-General of the Chinese Consulate in Lagos, Liu Kan, handed over the building to the State Government at a ceremony in Olorunsogo, Ogun state.
Liu said the gesture was to promote friendship between China and Nigeria and to boost education standard in Nigeria, adding that the project is an important part of China-Nigeria cooperation.
The Consul-General urged young Nigerians to study hard to know things about the world, including China.
The Project Manager for Sepco III told Xinhua that the gesture was part of the company's commitment to fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities in its host communities.
He expressed optimism that the renovated building would provide good learning environment for students.
Earlier, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Modupe Miyota, commended the Chinese firm for renovating the building and donating other learning materials to the pupils.
She called on other corporate organizations and wealthy Nigerians to assist the government in developing public schools in the country.
The commissioner pledged the commitment of the government, the ministry as well as the management of the school in ensuring that the block of classrooms would be properly maintained.
In her response, Olarewaju Ademola, a school teacher, described the gesture as a wonderful intervention coming at a time the school was battling with shortage of classrooms for students.
Local residents who attended the ceremony expressed unreserved appreciation for the laudable transformation that Sepco III implemented, adding that school and the pupils are forever grateful to the Company for this inestimable and kind gesture. Endit
