Croatian president arrives in Iran to boost ties

Xinhua, May 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic arrived in Iran's capital Tehran on Tuesday on a three-day official visit aimed at boosting bilateral ties, official IRNA news agency reported.

On Wednesday, officials of both countries will sign a number of cooperation agreements in the presence of Grabar-Kitarovic and her Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

Grabar-Kitarovic will also take part in an Iranian-Croatian economic forum on the same day.

She will separately meet with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

The Croatian leader is accompanied by a business delegation, comprising representatives of about 60 companies, including main Croatian energy companies Koncar Electrical Industries and the INA oil and gas company.

It is one of the largest delegations to have accompanied her abroad this year, according to a statement by the Croatian president's office on Saturday.

Iran represents a great potential and major global players were trying to return to the market of 80 million inhabitants after UN sanctions on Iran were lifted, it added.

By now the annual trade volume between the two countries stands at four million euros (4.5 million U.S. dollars). Endit
