Striker Claudio Pizarro has penned a one-year contract extension with the "Green-Whites" , Werder Bremen confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday.

Three days after securing the top-flight status with the crucial 1-0 win over Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, Pizarro agreed to wear Bremen' s jersey for another season after putting pen to paper on a contract until June 2017.

"I feel very well and I am pleased to play another year for this special club. It was a difficult but also a great year for me," Bremen' s all-time leading goal scorer said. "I hope we can achieve better results for the supporters and the city next season. I will give everything to make that happen."

The 37-year-old striker is the Bundesliga' s all-time leading foreign goal scorer. He made overall 411 appearances in Germany' s top flight and provided 190 goals. The next season will be Pizarro' s eighth season with Bremen, where he marked 103 goals in 187 official games.

"We are very pleased that Claudio, with all his experience and style of play, will stay here for next season," Bremen' s sporting director Thomas Eichin said.

The "Green-Whites" completed the season on the 13th place after securing their first division status with a 1-0 win over relegation threatened Frankfurt on the final match day of the Bundesliga on Saturday. Endit
