India defense minister to visit Oman, UAE next week

Xinhua, May 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar will embark on a four-day tour of Oman and the United Arab Emirates next week, sources said on Friday.

"Parrikar will leave for Gulf countries on May 18. His first stop will be Oman. During his stay in that country, the defense minister will call on the top leadership there and hold bilateral talks with his Omanese counterpart," the sources said.

India and Oman share very close relations and both countries conduct joint military exercises and cooperate in defense training, information technology and educational courses.

During the last leg of his tour, Parrikar will go to the neighboring United Arab Emirates and his visit will coincide with a joint air exercise being held between the air forces of both countries, the sources said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the United Arab Emirates last year, following which both countries had decided to establish a strategic security dialogue and bolster defence ties. Endit
