Russia sees necessity of constructing regional airliner

Xinhua, May 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

It is necessary for a huge country like Russia to construct its own regional airliner to provide regional flights, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

"I think we should try to construct an airliner which would be promising not only in our market but also competitive in the world markets," Putin said Thursday during a meeting held in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

He added that it is time to talk about the prospect of building a regional airliner with a capacity for 50-60 passengers.

Three main models were considered for the regional airliner: a Russian twin-engine turboprop airliner IL-114, a turboprop regional airliner AN-140, and a twin-engine, medium-range turboprop airliner MA-700. Endi
