Myanmar's Yangon regional government will prioritize seizure and arrest in a 100-day crack down on drug, official media quoted the regional authorities as reporting Friday.

More deployment of police force members and the use of modern equipment and technology to curb drug smuggling will be made, said Yangon region Minister of Security and Border Affairs Col Tin Aung Tun.

Under the 100-day plan, drug-related arrest and seizure have increased five-folds, disclosed Police Lt-Col Kyaw Kyaw Min ,adding that an anti-narcotic squad of 876 police members has been deployed in the region's four districts including Yangon International Airport and some jetties.

Under "Operation Dagon" from May 1 to 11, 105 suspects were arrested in 77 drug-related cases, he said.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein also pledged measures to ensure rule of law in the commercial city.

According to statistics, during the 12-year period from 1993 to 2014, Myanmar police seized drug-related movable and unmovable assets worth more than 57 billion kyats (about 57 million U.S. dollars). Endit
