Czech Republic to set up mobile police unit to control migration

Xinhua, May 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Czech government approved on Wednesday a plan to set up a 181-strong mobile police unit to control migration.

The unit will be able to respond to illegal migration and ensure public safety and border protection, said Lucie Novakova from the press department of Czech Interior Ministry.

If necessary, the unit will also fulfil tasks in detention facilities for foreigners. The plan aims to increase the Czech police's preparedness for risks linked to possible migrant wave, according to Novakova.

Some members of the unit will be recruited, and some will be the police officers who have already dealt with illegal migration.

According to Czech officials, tasks for the police unit also include the detection and prevention of terrorist and organized crimes, as well as disaster relief. Endit
