Belarus, Turkmenistan say Garlyk potash factory to be launched on schedule in 2017

Xinhua, May 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Presidents of Belarus and Turkmenistan on Wednesday confirmed plans to commission the Garlyk mining and processing factory in 2017.

The construction of the Garlyk plant in Turkmenistan will be completed on schedule, said Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko after meeting here with his Turkmenian counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

Lukashenko said the Belarusian side had prioritized the implementation of this project. For his part, the Turkmen president said that the potash mine factory is planned to put into operation in 2017.

The Garlyk mining and processing plant is now under construction in Lebap region in northeast Turkmenistan. The plant, with capacity of 1.4 million tonnes of potash per year, will not only satisfy the needs of domestic potash fertilizers in the country, but also boosts exports of up to 1 million tons per year.

The framework agreement on the construction of the mining and processing complex for the production of potash fertilizer was signed in 2009. The costs of the design and construction of the plant are estimated at more than 1 billion U.S. dollars. Endit
