JSE closes higher as gold mine shares rally

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed higher on Wednesday, boosted by a rally in commodity stocks and a weaker rand.
The all share index closed to 52,130.34 points in early afternoon trade, with the top 40 index gained 0.29 percent.
Financial and banks shares were positive notwithstanding a weaker rand.
Gold and platinum featured prominently on the winners' board buoyed by the metal prices.
Among the big miners, Anglo American added 6.51 percent to R385.50, with BHP Billiton gaining 2.26 percent to R182.14. Glencore was up 2.19 percent to R29.80.
Impala Platinum Holdings (IMP) climbed 7.49 percent after investors traded 6,365,443 shares in 5,089 deals, which saw the share price rise to R50.52 by close of the day.
Gold Fields recouped 5.78 percent to R64.75. DRD Gold (DRD) gained 7.01 percent to sell at R8.40 after 923 deals exchanged a total of 3,491,019 shares. Enditem
