Tokyo shares end mixed on Wall Street gains, strong yen

Tokyo shares ended mixed Wednesday after market optimism on Wall Street gains overnight was offset by dim export outlook amid strengthening yen.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 13.82 points, or 0.08 percent, from Tuesday at 16,579.01.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.60 points, or 0.04 percent, lower at 1,334.30.

Gainers were led by machinery, information and communication issues, while decliners were led by financial, oil and coal product issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,187.5 billion yen (about 20.11 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
