Algerian army troops deployed on the southern borderline of the country on Tuesday discovered war weapons in a bunker in the locality of Bordj Badji Mokhtar, near the border with Mali.

"Following a reconnaissance patrol and part of army efforts to securing border and fighting against terrorism, a bunker containing a large number of arms and ammunition, was discovered in the locality of Bordj Badji Mokhtar in the province of Adrar, 1543 km southwest Algiers," Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The source specified that the troops retrieved missile launching pad, 12 tubes (107-mm), one BM-21 missile, two FMPK machine guns, one RPK machine guns, two Kalashnikov submachine guns and two repeating rifles, in addition to nine 120-mm mortar shells, six 76-mm cannon shells, and bullets of different calibers.

The North African nation has been deploying more troops on the eastern and southern borderline to thwart intrusion of arms and militants, amid unstable security situation in neighboring nations, including Libya and Mali.
