Two aged Israeli women injured in Jerusalem stabbing attack

Xinhua, May 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two Israeli women were moderately injured in an apparent stabbing attack in Jerusalem on Tuesday, the Israeli police said.

The women, in their 70s, were walking in southeast Jerusalem when two suspects stabbed them from behind, police spokesperson Luba Samri said in a statement.

They were evacuated to Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek hospital in moderate condition with stabbing wounds, Israel's emergency services said.

The suspects had fled towards east Jerusalem, with the police saying the attack is nationalistically motivated. Two suspects have been arrested after police forces scanned the area, Samri added.

The latest stabbing attack took place last week, when a 60-year-old man was moderately injured in Jerusalem's Old City. A Palestinian suspect was arrested shortly after the attack.

Twenty eight Israelis and over 200 Palestinians were killed in the wave of violence which started in October. Israelis died in stabbing, shooting and car-ramming attacks by Palestinian attackers.

The Palestinians were killed in clashes with Israeli security forces during protests, or gunned down after trying or carrying out attacks against Israelis. Endit
