Bahrain moves in right direction: probe

Xinhua, May 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

A top commissioner who headed a high level commission to probe the 2011 unrest in Bahrain said on Monday that the country is moving in the right direction and overcome past obstacles.

Professor Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni, who chaired the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI), set up in 2011 by the Bahrain leadership, made the remarks during a visit to Manama.

"All the measures taken by Bahrain indicate that serious efforts had been exerted to overcome the events of 2011," he added.

He said that Bahrain was moving forward with reforms, which prompts the statement that the "objectives of the BICI recommendations have been achieved."

A number of policemen and civilians died in the unrest that started in February 2011 in the country, while several citizens and security personnel convicted for the crimes committed during that period. Endit
