Train accident claims 4 lives in Nigeria

Authorities in Nigeria on Monday confirmed four passengers dead following a train accident which occurred over the weekend in the north central province of Kwara.

The Nigeria Railway Corporation said the accident in Jebba axis of Kwara State occurred when a passenger train, going from the southwestern state of Lagos to the northwestern Kano State, derailed.

In a statement, Rauf Akinloye, a spokesman of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, said the rear portion of the ill-fated train led to the death of the four passengers. Three passengers sustained injuries in the accident.

According to the statement, the damaged tracks were being repaired in order to restore North-South train services in Nigeria.

Kwara State governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has ordered an investigation into the accident. Endit
