Burkinabe authorities start distributing water in Ouagadougou with tanks

Xinhua, May 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Burkina Faso's National Water and Sanitation Office (ONEA) over the weekend began distributing water in different parts of the capital Ouagadougou using water tanks.

A statement from the country's water ministry said the "distribution using tanks was effective."

The statement added that to improve water distribution in Ouagadougou, ONEA will, starting Monday, install generators to facilitate pumping of water in some suburbs.

From last week, Burkinabe capital has been subjected to rotational water distribution.

Since 2013, water shortage in Ouagadougou has increased from 28,000 cubic meters to 70,000 cubic meters due to intense heat and growing population, experts argued.

Ouagadougou's daily water needs stand at 183,000 cubic meters against a production capacity of 136,000 cubic meters, leaving a deficit of 47,000 cubic meters per day. Endit
