Tribunal to decide on Platini's fate

Xinhua, May 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will decide on Monday whether Michel Platini will return as UEFA president.

Platini was banned for six years for "conflict of interest" over a two million Swiss franc (2 million U.S. dollars) payment authorized by former FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who is still under criminal investigation in Switzerland.

UEFA has never named an interim president during Platini's suspension. If the Lausanne-based tribunal rejects Platini's appeal, UEFA will hold the European Championship without a leader.

Platini, who won the European Cup with Juventus and the European Championship with France, took the helm of the European soccer body in 2007. Enditem
