Tokyo shares open higher on bargain hunting

Tokyo shares opened the trading Monday higher on bargain hunting after the Nikkei index dropped roughly 1,400 points over the past six trading days.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 173.70 points, or 1.08 percent, higher from Friday to 16,280.42.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.98 points, or 1.08 percent, to 1,312.30. Endit
