Eight people including six Taliban and two police have been killed as clash flared up in Darqad district of the northern Takhar province Saturday night, provincial police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir said Sunday.

The clash, according to the official, erupted after a group of Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Basir Khil neighborhood of Darqad district Saturday night and police returned fire triggering gun battle which lasted for a while leaving six militants and two police dead.

Two more police personnel sustained injuries in clash, which is sporadically continuing, the official asserted.

Meantime, Taliban purported spokesman Zabihullah Majahid in contact with media confirmed fighting in Basir Khil area of Darqad district, saying the government forces suffered casualties. Endit
