Former Chile, Colombia football chiefs banned for corruption

Former presidents of the Chilean and Colombian football federations have been handed life bans for corruption, the sport's world governing body FIFA said on Friday.

Chilean Sergio Jadue and Colombian Luis Bedoya were found guilty of accepting bribes to award sports marketing rights for major competitions, including the Copa Libertadores and Copa America.

FIFA's ethics committee said they had broken rules for general conduct, loyalty, duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting, conflicts of interest and bribery and corruption.

Jadue was president of the Chilean federation from January 2011 to November 2015.

Bedoya led the Colombian federation from 2006 to 2015 and is a former member of FIFA's executive committee.

Both men are among dozens of Latin American football officials under investigation for corruption by the US justice department.

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and European football chief Michel Platini have been banned for six years by the ethics committee and former secretary general Jerome Valcke for 12 years. Endit
