Seoul hosts samgyetang dinner party for 4,000 Chinese tourists

Xinhua, May 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

About 4,000 Chinese tourists tasted samgyetang, a traditional Korean ginseng chicken soup, at a riverside park in Seoul on Friday.

The local delicacy was prepared by the Seoul city government, food ministry and the Korea Tourism Organization to attract more Chinese tourists to South Korea.

The Chinese travellers are part of a company's 8,000 employees on an incentive trip to the country this month, which is the biggest of its kind in history. The other 4,000 Chinese tourists will enjoy the same samgyetang dinner party on May 10.

Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon hoped the Chinese guests would experience the real Seoul as the city hosted them at Banpo Hangang Park, a favorite leisure park in the city.

The Seoul government set up 400 dinner tables for the guests and served beer, kimchi and drinks made from ginseng at the park by the Han River.

South Korea saw a drop in the number of Chinese tourists to the country in 2015, after an outbreak of the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). Since then, authorities have announced a slew of measures to revive tourism.

Chinese visitors to South Korea jumped 17 percent in the first two months of the year to 1.07 million, according to official statistics. Endit
