Tunisia, Libya keen on security cooperation

Xinhua, May 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

The visiting Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid said here Friday that Tunisia is willing to continue security cooperation and joint border control with Libya.

Essid arrived in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Friday and met with the Prime Minister Fayez Serraj.

Essid told a press conference following the meeting that his visit is "a strong message of support for the government of national accord."

"We will continue supporting the Libyan people," Essid said, adding Tunisia's support for the UN-sponsored peace agreement is the only solution to the division in the country.

Western and Arab officials have been visiting Tripoli since March to offer support for the new government of national accord.

Serraj's government has been appointed according to an UN-sponsored peace deal signed by Libya's rival factions after almost a year of negotiations. Endit
