110 fall ill after eating at funeral function in eastern India

Xinhua, May 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

About 110 people were taken ill after consuming food at a funeral ceremony in the eastern Indian state of Bihar Wednesday night, said local media on Thursday.

The Press Trust of India said the incident took place at Rupauli panchayat (village) of Bihar's Madhepura district, where the people fell ill after eating food at a funeral function Wednesday night.

The patients were brought to a primary health center and the condition of the patients has improved after first-aid, said the report.

Food poisoning incidents take place from time to time in India due to unhealthy eating habits and having bad food.

In July 2013, at least 23 students died and dozens more fell ill at a primary school in the village of Dharmashati Gandaman in the Saran district of Bihar after eating a midday meal contaminated with pesticides. Bihar is one of the poorest states of India. Endit
