China provides Mozambique grant for buses, bore-holes

China on Wednesday pledged to provide Mozambique a grant of 16 million U.S. dollars to purchase 80 buses, drill 200 bore-holes, and build a cultural center to support the southern African nation's social and economic development.

The agreement signed by the Mozambican Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Nyeleti Mondlane and Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Sun Jian.

"We are very much aware that the implementation of these projects will meet the demands of the government of Mozambique in providing basic services to its people," Mondlane said.

Chinese ambassador said Mozambique had impressive economic growth records and attracted many Chinese investments in the past few years. China stands ready to help its Mozambican friends, Su said.

China had already committed to provide emergency food aid to Mozambique earlier this year as the El Nido-induced drought slashed grain production and left 1.5 million people in the country at risk of hunger. The government this week said it had secured resources to feed 462,000 food vulnerable population and would deliver the assistance this month. Endit
