At least 17 people were killed on Tuesday evening by suspected fighters of the Ugandan rebel group, Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), in Mimibo and Mutsonge villages, located 60 km northeast of Beni town, North Kivu province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

The death toll was reported on Wednesday by DR Congo army spokesman for Sokola 1 operation, Lieutenant Mac Azukayi who said those killed included 10 women and five children. (DR Congo-Security)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Tuesday bowed out of the race after his defeat in the GOP's Indiana primary, delivering a heavy blow to Republicans currently eyeing a contested convention this summer to snatch the party's nomination from Donald Trump.

"From the beginning, I've said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory," Cruz told his supporters at a rally in Indianapolis, Indiana. "Tonight, I'm sorry to say it appears that the path has been foreclosed." (U.S.-Election)

DUBAI -- Thirty-one passengers have been injured after a Jakarta-bound flight encountered "severe and unexpected turbulence" about 45 minutes prior to landing, UAE's Etihad Airways said on Wednesday.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline's flight EY474 was bound to Soekarno Hatta International Airport when it was hit by the turbulence, Etihad said in a statement. (UAE-flight)

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- A total of 18 Taliban militants including key commander Khakrizwal have been killed in Khakriz district of the southern Kandahar province over the past four days, security official Niaz Mohammad Majahid said on Wednesday.
