Macedonia, Hungary to boost bilateral cooperation in defense

Xinhua, May 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Macedonian Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski and Hungary's Army Chief of Staff General Timor Benko agreed in a meeting on Wednesday to boost bilateral cooperation in defense.

"Macedonia sees an honest friend and supporter in Hungary, particularly when it comes to meeting the country's strategic goals, its NATO and EU accession," said Jolevski.

Jolevski said several army centers in Macedonia, such as the Krivolak military training area, could be used for joint training exercises for the two countries' armies.

In regard to the migrant crisis, Jolevski expressed gratitude for the support Macedonia receives from Hungary, as well as readiness to produce a joint comprehensive strategy.

For his part, Benko thanked Macedonia for its help in tackling the migrant crisis. "We will continue to be honest supporters of the army, and Macedonia on its road to full-fledged NATO membership," he said.

"For us, the stability of the Western Balkans is very important. Hungary's position is that Macedonia long ago deserved its place as a fully-fledged member in the Alliance," Benko said. Enditem
