France to convene meeting of countries backing Syrian opposition

Xinhua, May 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

France is planning to convene a meeting of countries backing the Syrian opposition on May 9 to discuss ways to resume diplomatic talks, a French government official announced on Wednesday.

Stephane Le Foll, the government's spokesman, said officials from Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Turkey would attend the meeting.

"All the initiatives will be taken to promote the resumption of peace talks," he said after a cabinet meeting.

A ceasefire accord, brokered by Russia and United States, entered into force in February but collapsed following renewed violence in Aleppo. Enditem
