1 soldier killed, 10 wounded in PKK bomb attack in SE Turkey

Xinhua, May 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

One Turkish soldier was killed and 10 others wounded in a car bomb attack staged by the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey on Wednesday, private Dogan news agency reported.

The car bomb exploded early Wednesday before a gendarmerie station in the area between the provinces of Sanliurfa and Mardin, leaving one Turkish soldier killed and 10 others injured, including two in serious conditions, according to the report.

The wounded were taken to hospitals for medical treatment, added the report.

The houses of the gendarmerie station and the nearby villagers were also damaged, said the report.

The Turkish security forces launched a large-scale operation in fight against the PKK militants who escaped from the bombing scene, said the report.

Since a two-year cease-fire between the government and the PKK disintegrated last July, Turkish security forces have launched a major campaign against the PKK in southeast Turkey, leaving over 400 government soldiers and over 3,700 PKK members dead.

The PKK, waging a separatist war against Turkey since 1984, is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
