Indian police busted a major terror ring by detaining 12 militants on Wednesday during a series of raids in the Indian capital and its adjoining areas in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, sources said.
Acting on a tip-off from intelligence agencies, the Delhi Police carried out the raids and took into custody the 12 terrorists belonging to Pakistan-based militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed and seized huge cache of explosives and bomb-making materials from their possession, the sources said.
All those arrested by the cops are in their 30s and some are permanent residents of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, they said.
"Intelligence sleuths and the police are currently questioning the militants who they believe were from the sleeper cell of the militant outfit and were on a mission to carry out terror strikes at some of the key installations in the Indian capital," the sources said.
Meanwhile, the security at all key installations, airports and government buildings has been beefed up in the wake of the detention of the 12 militants.
"The security forces guarding key installations and the cops are on high alert to avert any kind of untoward incident," the sources said. Endit
