Losses in resources weigh JSE down

All shares at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) ended 1.97 percent weaker on Tuesday, with 4.84 percent losses in resource shares leading the downward slide.

The rand was trading stronger against the majors, at R14.61 to the U.S. dollar, R21.21 to the British pound and R16.81 to the euro.

Precious metals slipped , with gold losing 0.61 percent to sell at 1283.67 dollars an ounce, silver falling 0.97 perecnt to 17.34 dollars an ounce, and platinum declining by 0.99 percent to 1,064.16 dollars an ounce.

On the top ten gainers list on Tuesday was Allied Electronics Corporation (AEN), whose shares rose 6.96 percent to sell at R5.99 after 126,057 shares were exchanged in 25 deals Tuesday. Also on the list was Mix Telematics (MIX), whose shares edged up to R2.41 after 28 deals traded 3,640,798 shares, a boost in the share price of 4.78 percent.

Anglo American was amongst the biggest movers tumbled, as shares slid 11.04 percent to R141.00 after investors bought and sold 5,206,108 shares in 7,738 deals. After 364 deals exchanged a total of 1,341,630 shares, Glencore Xstrata shares down 7.10 percent to R31.68 by 5 p.m.. Endit
